Defense and pitching are great. You need them to win, I agree. However, when you don't score any runs, you can't win. I don't know if you realize it because we're sitting on top of the division right now, but the Reds' offense is pretty weak. For example, the Reds are batting .217 against the Cubs in six games (well, through six innings of the sixth game). To further weaken the situation, one of the few guys who has a hot bat right now, Josh Hamilton, doesn't play against lefties despite not having proved that he can't hit lefties. Moreover, your moron manager is playing head games with our young third baseman, and though I am inclined to agree with the discipline procedure that was implemented, he hasn't been hitting all that well and it might have been bad timing. That's in hindsight, of course.
Please tell your batting coach to focus on players other than Dunn (but not to ignore Dunn, either) and teach them how to be patient instead of swinging at the first pitch every at bat. Also, get some bats on the bench. If it means sending David Ross down to the farm, do it. The guy is currently a liability to the team. The Reds are getting lucky with a lot of their wins, and luck is not a sustainable factor in a winning season.
Sincerely,
A Reds fan
